Ah, PS3 emulation on Sony’s current consoles is the eternal dream. This is a discussion that goes back to the early days of the PS4, when it was confirmed that the last-gen console would not be compatible with previous games. The conversation has continued ever since, livening up whenever a PlayStation patent comes up or is brought up by a semi-reliable informant.
There have been rumors for years that an official PS3 emulator from Sony was in the works – but no concrete evidence has been forthcoming. And now things are picking up again thanks to recent rumors on social media and the like. However, the current conversation carries a bit more weight as Insider reporter Jeff Grubb comments on PS3 emulation in the latest version. Morning Chaos Game podcast.
Grubb has reason to believe that Sony has been working on this imitation “for some time.” He continued that he first heard about the initiative earlier this year and initially thought it would be unveiled soon. However, Grubb doesn’t seem convinced that PS3 emulation is a sure thing: “Of course it hasn’t happened, but that doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen – it could happen.”
Whether it happens or not, PS3 emulation is making headlines again. There are plenty of great games stuck on Sony’s last-gen systems – and it would be a real shame if that were the case.
