The original God of War game will return to PS5, though we don’t put too much stock in the source. keep talking Xbox Glory Podcast – We know it, we know it – notorious rumormonger Nick Baker says that a remaster of Kratos’ first three adventures “could happen”. It’s probably worth noting that God of War 3 has already been re-released for PS4 and is playable on Sony’s new generation of consoles with full backwards compatibility.
The Japanese giant is best known for remastering the first two games in the series for the PS3 as well as their PSP counterparts. This started a trend at the time that resulted in numerous popular PS2 titles being re-released in high definition. But outside of cloud streaming, the PS5 can’t play PS3 games natively, so we think it would make sense to bring it back.
“I heard that we might be getting a remake of the original God of War trilogy on PlayStation,” Baker explained, though he wasn’t keen to elaborate. “Is this a direct port of what we have on the PS3? In this case, I’m a little less enthusiastic. Or is it more related to the world of remakes?”
Baker has focused heavily on PlayStation rumors in the past, but many of them have not turned out to be true. In 2021, he said there was a “chance” that a new Infamous game would be announced at a meeting. PS Gallery, but the event came and went without any mention of Soccer Punch’s superhero series. A year later, he claimed that a new Sly Cooper was also in development, prompting the Seattle-based developer to completely deny the speculation: “There are no Infamous or Sly Cooper games in development at this time.”
Of course it is probably Sony may try to bring back the original God of War Games purely for preservation purposes. Without going into too many spoilers, the new God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla add-on is closely tied to the PS2 title, and playing these classic games on modern hardware couldn’t be easier.
So that’s a good guess – but maybe that’s all!
