Japan’s Good8 Squad recently released a statement that commentator and player Ryoma “Nanai” Ono has sadly and suddenly passed away.
He was only 32 years old.
An official statement said that on August 9, 2023, Nanai died suddenly of cardiac arrest.
Nanai attended Evo 2023 last weekend where she finished 7th in Idol Showdown and 193rd in Street Fighter 6 and was in high spirits.

Although he made his debut in fighting games in Street Fighter 4, it was in the Street Fighter 5 era that Nanai made his mark as a great commentator and Grandmaster-level player as well as Granblue Fantasy Verses.
FGM members around the world have expressed their grief and condolences over Nana’s death.

PST book Daigo Umehara in his public statement: “Nanai was a great person, loved by all – a rarity in FGM.” “It’s a strange scene and I hope it wasn’t too hard for him. I hope he had a good time. He’s always worked hard and had his whole life ahead of him. It’s sad.”
In lieu of a post-Ivo celebratory post, renowned artist Click Burgundy also paid tribute to Nanai with a photo of a special person who has helped build bridges across and beyond the FGC while currently battling Covid-19.

Capcom canceled filming of Street Fighter League races in Japan this week due to Nanai’s death, and other promoters across Japan also canceled tournaments in her honor this week.
A scheduled SFL broadcast on the 11th was canceled due to the news of Nanai’s untimely death, with the next broadcast taking place on the 15th.
