We think it’s a bad idea that even the most expensive Samsung smartphone looks cheap.
The time has come next January, when Samsung will present us with its new flagship smartphones for 2024. They will be Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra But at first glance, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in particular are barely recognizable. This is good and bad at the same time.
The good point is that buyers of the affordable models of the Galaxy A series also have a device that looks similar to the flagship models, as a direct comparison shows very well. Certainly gives a good feeling, it plays a role subconsciously.
In recent years, Samsung has ensured that virtually all price ranges have a uniform look But it’s also a problem if you look at the whole thing from a different perspective. Because who wants to buy a smartphone for around 1,000 euros that looks like a device for 300 euros?
Expensive models look like smartphones from the lower price range
I know Samsung is not alone in this, it’s the same with Google. And Xiaomi wants to use the huge camera bump design to underline the fact that the affordable mid-range is not far from the flagship devices. The fact that Samsung now offers almost the same look for every model is an unfortunate strategy.
If I were the manufacturer, I would do more to ensure that the flagship models, which are also the absolute bestsellers, look similar and stand out more clearly from the rest of the portfolio. In my opinion, Samsung is doing itself no favors with the current design and the few features that differentiate the A and S.
Do you have an opinion about this?
