Samsung made a strange decision and bypassed the modern update process.
A few years ago, Google created the standard for seamless updates for Pixel smartphones, but gave free rein to the industry. As you can see, the lack of pressure to adapt to such innovations is still a major disadvantage of the Android ecosystem, especially at Samsung.
Seamless Update (A/B): Installation occurs in the background while devices are running. Just needs a quick reboot. Devices may be used during update installation. Another advantage is reliability. Since the update is installed on the second partition, the previous state can be restored in case of an error. In recent versions with virtual A/B updates, memory requirements are barely higher than in older versions without A/B.
Now it appears that the new top models of the Galaxy Z series do not use this update method. It’s strange that Samsung is using this strategy, because with the Galaxy A55 they relied on a better update process for a 2024 smartphone. And why not is anybody’s guess.
