Sonnet has announced its new Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock. This is a Thunderbolt dock that also features the ability to add up to 16TB of NVMe SSD storage. It also features fast USB charging ports and 5K display support.
The Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock features two M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD slots, so you can install high-performance M.2 NVMe SSDs (sold separately) inside. The installed SSDs interface with the dock’s Thunderbolt controller and utilize its bandwidth to deliver the performance of a portable Thunderbolt SSD.
Having a dock with the ability to add your own NVMe storage makes a lot of sense. Having a single integrated solution instead of a dock and an additional SSD enclosure would be handy for not only traveling shooters who are using a laptop in the field, but also for anyone who wants a stand-alone solution for their desktop.
On location, or in the office or home, you could hook up your card reader and then ingest material directly to the SSDs and then edit straight from the dock.
Single SSDs installed in the Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock can each achieve sustained data transfers of up to 1500 MB / s. Configured as a RAID 0 set for even greater performance, data transfers up to 3000 MB / s are possible. Start with one SSD, and add any size SSD later without needing to format the first one.
Above you see what NVMe SSDs will work in the Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock.
