Sonos is teasing it both via email and online social media, announced that the “most requested product of all time” will be “soon available” on May 21 (this Tuesday). It’s almost certainly the Sonos Ace, its first wireless headphones.
Sonos was expected to launch the Ace headphones in June, but with the company’s “Most Wanted” buzz and the fact that the headphones recently went on sale at authorized retailer Schuurmann, it looks like they’ll hit the market sooner.
A launch this week could help Sonos overcome some of the furor surrounding the launch of its new app earlier this month. The app is reportedly designed in part to support the Sonos Ace, but lacks key features like a sleep timer or local library management features. It may take months to roll these features back into the app.
Apart from Roam and Ace, the company is unlikely to announce anything else this week. Sonos is rumored to be preparing to release a streaming TV device, but not until later this year. The same rumor goes for the Sonos Arc speakers. And it’s very likely that the “most in-demand product of all time” will be the next Sonos sub or the business-focused Era 100. Headphones make a lot of sense and open up the first of four new product categories the company plans to enter.
