To the surprise of many, Sony’s past financial reports contained no new information on sales PlayStation 4 In the first quarter of the current financial year. Instead, the Japanese company only offered a modest number of consoles, indicating that they no longer plan to disclose how many units the PS4 has sold every three months.
Considering the industry is slowly ditching the PS4 and Xbox One in favor of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with more companies creating exclusive next-gen experiences, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. As per latest information, Sony has revealed that the PS4 has sold a total of 117.2 million units since launch November 15, 2013, to March 31, 2022.

To put that number into context, only the Game Boy family, with 118.7 million units, is ahead of the PS4, the Nintendo DS, with 154 million, and the PS2, with over 155 million. However, Nintendo Switch currently has 111 million consoles sold and The platform is expected to surpass Sony’s previous generation by the end of the current fiscal year.

Without a doubt, a fairly simple conclusion to a great generation. The PS4 put out some of the best games of the past few years and was the entry point to video games for many. This console will be missed, but it’s time to look to the future.
