- Sony has announced a September 17 event for its Xperia line.
- It’s believed that the company will announce the Sony Xperia 5 II.
Sony has already released one high-profile phone earlier this year in the Xperia 1 II and it’s now announced that it’s holding another Xperia launch next month.
The Japanese electronics firm quietly revealed a September 17 event at 4PM JST (3AM ET), confirming that it will be a “new product announcement” for the Xperia line. Check out the poster below.
So what could it be, then? We’re guessing that it’s the Sony Xperia 5 II, as a render leaked this week courtesy of veteran tipster Evan Blass. The image shows a phone that looks largely identical to the Xperia 5, albeit with tweaked side buttons. There’s no word if the new phone will be smaller than the Xperia 1 II, as the Xperia 5 was indeed smaller than the Xperia 1.
Hopefully Sony implements a drastically improved camera experience in the new phone, as this was one of our biggest gripes with the Xperia 1 II. For one, the firm offered three apps devoted to photos and videos when one well-designed app (or two at the most) would’ve worked. Furthermore, some features like HDR and 4K/60fps recording were only available in one app and not in the other.
