(Pocket-Lint) – Spotify has confirmed that it has begun removing songs from Neil Young’s catalog from its service after the singer issued an ultimatum to the streaming giant earlier this week.
He claimed that the platform would take a stand against its biggest podcaster, Joe Rogan, for its pattern of repeatedly spreading misinformation about the Covid-19 epidemic and its vaccine.
Young says, “They can have Rogan or Young. Neither.”, And it looks like Spotify has picked her up fairly quickly. It is now removing the songs, though it has said it hopes Young will return to the platform soon.
The Joe Rogan Experience still seems unlikely when Spotify’s golden podcast is a goose – it paid $ 100 million a year ago. It attracts 200 million listeners per month, a serious segment of users.
Young thanked his record label, Reprise Records, which is owned by Warner Bros., for what it said were willing to take about 60 percent of its streaming stats.
In its own defense, Spotify said it had “detailed content policy and [has] More than 20,000 podcast episodes about Kovid have been deleted since the epidemic began. “
The big question going forward is whether the boycott of Young’s service has raised any other big names in music and taken notice – if more artists begin to object to Spotify’s lead in the podcast, the equation for streaming services could be more complicated. .
