It seems like every day we hear a new rumor about the successor Nintendo Switch. From its specifications, price and release date. However, a few hours ago a report revealed one of the most important categories, Now we know what the screen size of this new console will be.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, which cites Omdia analyst Hiroshi Hayase, who specializes in the screen market, as the main source, The successor to the Switch will have an eight-inch LCD screen. In comparison, the traditional model of the current Nintendo Switch is 6.2 inches, while the OLED version offers us seven inches. Along with this, it is mentioned that this long awaited hardware will be available by the end of 2024.
Although the size has excited more than one person, It’s an LCD screen that has disappointed more than one fan. As always, Nintendo hasn’t shared official information about this report or its new console. However, LCD screens are highly likely to be chosen over OLED to avoid high production costs. Similarly, the possibility of seeing an OLED model in the future cannot be ruled out.
While a lot of information has already been revealed about the Switch’s successor, there is one section that remains a mystery and that is that it is currently unknown how backwards compatibility will work. Some have pointed out that this console will continue to use cartridges, So simply keeping the title from the current hardware to the new one is enough. However, some have pointed out that backwards compatibility will be digital, and that my Nintendo Account will be a very important factor. In this context, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser commented:
“Our goal is to minimize the decline that typically occurs in the last year of one cycle and the beginning of another cycle. “I can’t speak to the potential features of a new platform, but Nintendo Account is a solid foundation for the communication we can transition.”
with this, It has been mentioned that the Switch 2 will be a console with similar power to the PlayStation 4.That might sound like an inferiority complex, especially compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it’s more than enough for Nintendo, and it opens the door to many more ports of better quality.
Although Nintendo has remained silent, multiple reports confirm that this new console will be announced in the first half of 2024 and It will reach us in the second half of the year. We can only wait for the Japanese company to share official information to put an end to all the rumors and reports we’ve seen in recent months. Relatedly, these will be the specifications for Switch 2. Likewise, developers are already working on the new console.
Editor’s note:
While it’s disappointing that there’s no talk of an OLED screen, especially considering that this model of the Switch has sold quite well, the idea of having a much larger screen is very appealing, even though it will likely compromise the portability of this piece of hardware.
