What happened then?
Syrp was founded in 2012 by a (very) successful Kickstarter campaign That gave birth to Ginny. This versatile but relatively small and, most importantly, easy-to-use and quite affordable time-lapse machine has helped a generation of filmmakers create stunning time-laps without having to go through expensive and complex-use tools. .
Genie’s success was followed by many more innovative and innovative products that transformed Syrp from a garage startup to a real company, including the Genie Mini, Genie II and Syrp Slingshot, among others.
Syrp becomes Syrp Lab
At some point, Vitec Group acquired Syrp, expanding its logistics network and its reach to filmmakers. It was in 2019 (read our article about the acquisition here). Fast forward to November 2021, Syrp has another big announcement: the company will be renamed from Syrp to Syrp Lab and all of its speed control products will be integrated into the Manfroto Move ecosystem. The syrup app will also be moved to Manfroto “Create a unified end user experience across all products”.
First and foremost: Existing customers have nothing to fear, their warranty will automatically be transferred to Manfroto. In addition, users will have access to a worldwide expanded and local support team when it is easier to keep support and accessories when needed.
Moreover, even under the new name of Syrup Lab, it will be available through the same team support and other channels in Auckland, New Zealand, led by the same founders.

In 2022, we will become syrup labs. A hub for innovation and content creation, working together to expand our team and create next-generation tools for manufacturers, plugging our ideas and R&D skills into brands that create Vitek Imaging Solutions. Our team will not only focus on product development but also teach developers how to use the tools to create the perfect content in the form of a dedicated YouTube channel and the accompanying education website.
What next?
