Today, during State of Play, Bandai Namco opened the show with a first look at Tekken 8, the next installment in the long-running fighting game franchise.
The short trailer shows Jin Kazama confronting his father Kazuya Mishima on a rainy mountain. Zin was able to transform into his monster form in mid-flight and then hit heavily. During the battle fierce storms arose behind the warriors and hurricanes ravaged the sea below.
A PlayStation-Blog A contribution from Tekken executive producer Katsuhiro Harada confirms that all visual elements featured in the trailer — “character models, backgrounds, and effects” — are all in-game assets. The scene is from the game’s story mode, but the blog says that what’s seen is similar to what players experience mid-battle.
“Even though it was captured from story mode, it’s not a pre-rendered movie for the trailer, it’s a real-time movie,” Harada wrote, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you’d experience Game vs. Battle mode.
The reveal follows a short teaser shown at Evo 2022 in August, which featured a single image of Kazuya’s face alongside the words “get ready” in the Tekken 7 grand finale.
Tekken 8 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam at some point in the future, as no specific release date or window was announced with the trailer. No other characters were revealed during the short trailer.
