The wireless video transmission matador Teradek recently announced its professional live streaming app for iOS – Teradek Airmix. Let’s take a look at its features.
Teradek Airmix
The Airmix is an iOS video streaming production suite from Teradek that supports single or multi-camera live productions. With its simple user interface, Airmix turns an iOS device into a video switcher, making it a viable solution for streaming.
According to Teradek, the Airmix can broadcast to multiple platforms simultaneously, like Facebook, YouTube, or Periscope. For multi-platform streaming, however, an optional Teradek Core or Sharelink account is required. In an environment without internet connection, Airmix can record the video signal and stream/upload the video later.
Teradek Airmix supports custom graphics, animations, seamless transitions, customizable lower thirds, and scaling options. For sports events, the Airmix includes a sports timer and a set of custom scoreboards. It is also possible to re-watch the important moments throughout the broadcast in Instant Replay using slow motion.
Airmix supports up to 10 video sources, with the ability to switch between iOS cameras and other cameras like DSLR’s and camcorders with Teradek encoders, plus pre-recorded video and audio files, PowerPoint files, PDF files, or web-based links. The app enables to control audio levels and set parameters for each video source.

Teradek offers three different versions of Airmix and all of them are available on the App Store.
- Airmix Remote is a free app that can turn any supported iOS device into a live camera source for the Airmix app on the iPad.
- Airmix Solo is also available free of charge and it can live stream video directly from an iPhone.
- Airmix is a fully capable video switcher app with all the features mentioned in the article. It is a subscription-based app that costs $30 per month. Teradek also offers a free 30-day trial.
