Teradek has announced the new Bolt 4K LT. Essentially it is a Bolt LT that has upgraded internals so that it can now send 4K HDR wireless video.
The Bolt 4K LT is smaller and lighter than the Bolt 4K, but it does have reduced capabilities.
The Bolt 4K LT can transmit 4K resolution in 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR at a distance of up to 1500ft (457m). Teradek claims that unlike traditional compression engines, the Bolt 4K’s processing ensures all information is delivered to the receiver, rather than a sending a compressed HEVC/H.264 image. This means a visually lossless image, that is said to be comparable to running an SDI cable.
Key features
- Transmits up to 1500′ Line of Sight
- Supports up to 1080p120 Resolution

- Zero delay
Teradek Bolt 4K LT 750 3G-SDI/HDMI Wireless Transmitter
The transmitter can input up to 4K resolutions over HDMI and 1080p120 over 3G-SDI with 10-bit HDR support. According to Teradek, it transmits visually lossless video to any Bolt 4K LT receiver with zero delay. It also features an OLED display and a 3G-SDI loop output.
The transmitter supports transmission of up to 1080p120 video to up to six receivers, and it features improved metadata, range, and compatibility over its predecessors. There is built-in AES-256 encryption to protect your video from being seen by others. Teradek claims that noise rejection keeps your video clean no matter how many devices are using the wireless spectrum.
The Bolt 4K LT units are all cross-compatible, so you can transmit to different Bolt 4K LT receiver models. The transmitter also supports an iOS app that easily connects via Bluetooth, which provides a spectrum analyzer, channel selection tools, and remote configuration.
Teradek Bolt 4K LT 3G-SDI/HDMI Wireless Receiver
The receiver supports transmissions of up to 1080p120 video from any Bolt 4K LT transmitter, which can simultaneously transmit to up to six receivers. It features improved metadata, range, and compatibility over its predecessors.
The system also supports an iOS app that easily connects via Bluetooth, which provides a spectrum analyzer, channel selection tools, and remote configuration.
What is the difference between Bolt 4K LT and Bolt 4K?
The Bolt 4K LT only features 3G SDI so the only way it can transmit 4K is if it receives an input over HDMI. The Bolt 4K has 12G SDI so it can receive 4K inputs over both SDI and HDMI.
The Bolt 4K LT can also only transmit UHD signals at up to 30p, while the Bolt 4K can transmit 4K DCI at up to 60p.
What does this mean for the original Bolt LT?
That is a good question. Some versions of the Bolt LT have been discontinued, but places like B&H still list and sell quite a few versions.
It is unclear whether Teradek will be discontinuing the non 4K versions moving forward.
Other options?
Currently, nobody else offers a professional wireless video transmission system that is capable of sending and receiving 4K signals.
