If you want a good camera in a flagship smartphone, Motorola seems to be the right place for you.
Motorola has released a very interesting flagship smartphone with the Edge 50 Ultra, which is not yet available for purchase in Germany due to sales restrictions. If you want a new model, you have to import it from neighboring EU countries. There are good reasons for this, and it probably includes the integrated camera.
According to the famous DXOMARK, the camera system of Motorola Edge 50 Ultra performs really well. It’s not the highest level, but the overall ranking puts the Motorola cell phone ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and one ahead of the iPhone 15 and on par with the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max.
It is good:
- Pretty good exposure in most situations
- Good compromise between detail preservation and noise reduction
- Fast and precise autofocus
- Accurate depth estimation in bokeh mode
- Good detail rendition in telephoto shots, especially at close and medium ranges
- Less image noise on zoom shots, even on ultra-wide angle shots
- Pretty good video stabilization
This is bad:
- Contrast is very strong in HDR format
- Exposure and white balance adjustment issues
- Unsteady transient noise reduction in video mode
- Unwanted artifacts, including fusion artifacts, ghosting, ringing, and color fringing
- Occasional misfocusing on telephoto shots
- Slightly limited dynamic range on ultra-wide-angle shots
