RCS is coming to iPhone, will have to wait a few more months.
Last year, Apple announced that they now want to bring RCS to the iPhone. Behind this may be the massive political pressure that various countries and states are striving for better competition (EU and China) and more consumer friendliness. Apple is now more specific.
Google has probably said that Apple now wants to introduce RCS to the iPhone from the fall of 2024 (via 9 to 5) then it is possible for users with iPhones and users of Android devices to be able to write to each other directly using only their phone numbers. As before with SMS, the well-known chat app possibilities only thanks to RCS.
RCS stands for: It is the successor to SMS, which has a similar simple structure. No user accounts or additional apps are required; Support by phone number is pre-installed on Android via the Google Messages app. However, RCS has a modern range of functions that we know from WhatsApp, Telegram and Co.
However, it is not yet known how well or poorly RCS will integrate into the iPhone. We assume a minimal solution that is maximally uncomfortable. Apple is not interested in this, they want to protect their own iMessage solution.
