After weeks of rumors and leaks, VI IFA 2023Lenovo has finally announced the Legion Go, its new wearable device that is equal parts Nintendo Switch and Valve’s Steam Deck gaming laptop.
What sets the Lenovo Legion Go apart from other gaming laptops is that the Legion Go has a detachable gamepad called the Legion TrueStrike with a kickstand on the back of the device. The Legion TrueStrike features a D-pad, mouse wheel, ten programmable shoulder buttons, trigger and grip buttons, and two thumbsticks on each controller. To make sure the controllers don’t suffer from the same drift issues as the Switch, Lenovo made sure the Legion TrueStrike uses a hall effect joystick.
Lenovo notes that the Legion Go features an 8.8-inch QHD+ IPS display with touchscreen support. With 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and M.2 SSD storage in three configurations: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. However, the company has confirmed that the device will have a microSD card slot, which will allow you to add up to 2TB of additional storage to the device. . The Legion Go features an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU and RDNA graphics with Windows 11 pre-installed as the device’s operating system.
More interestingly, Lenovo mentioned the FPS mode available on the Legion Go. The company describes it as a mod that allows device owners to detach the controllers from the screen and use the rear kickstand to prop them up. The right TrueStrike controller is then placed on a magnetic base with an optical eye on the bottom right of the controller, offering “more precise aiming and control” like a gaming mouse.
The Lenovo Legion Go will be available in October with a retail price of $699.
