It will be much harder to lose an Android phone in the future.
Google will launch a new “Find Device” feature for the Android ecosystem in 2024, ushering in true offline device discovery for the first time. This makes it possible to find Pixel smartphones even if they have been off for a long time due to battery.
New Find My Device A large network (crowdsourcing) will use more than one billion Android devices worldwide to help users find their lost items like headphones, tracker tags, etc. Data exchange across all user devices is anonymous and encrypted. A Bluetooth signal may be sufficient to find offline devices.
Google is making this feature available on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The first users have already been able to try out the new system and report exciting functions. Google’s new Device Finder network does just that possibleTo detect smartphones even with an empty battery. Even for hours!
Specifically it says: “If this phone runs out of battery or is turned off, the Find My Device network can locate it for a few hours.”
This requires special hardware in the phones, which is now and will likely be available in the future, at least in Google’s flagship models. Unfortunately, we can’t yet say if this is the case with the new Pixel 8a.
