die The new iPad Pro It’s here and the inevitable YouTube stress test is already running across the internet. JerryRig Everything And Appletrack released Bend test videos, and both seem to come to the same conclusion: The new iPad Pro holds up well to extreme forces and seems very resistant to bending under normal use.
Appletrack For comparison, he repeated the same bend with the M2 iPad Pro and the new M4 iPad Pro, and while the M4 iPad Pro escaped almost unscathed, the M2 iPad Pro had a final crease in the corner near the camera. JerryRigEverything praised the device for its “black level of structural integrity,” at least when tilted horizontally.
When flexed vertically, the device yields more easily to pressure, which may be due to the force opposing the axis of the new stronger inner case and the weakness of the charging port opening at the bottom.
While iPads bend under almost any force, the tablet returns to its normal shape under almost all normal conditions. To achieve a permanent bend, the testers needed a force that went far beyond what would be expected in normal everyday use.
Perhaps most impressively, all iPads, including the camera and touchscreen responsiveness, continue to function after extreme force is applied – albeit with a severely deformed and shattered glass surface.
At least based on these first impressions, it doesn’t look like we’ll have a repeat of 2018’s #BendGate. The controversy arose when the new iPad Pro 2018 form factor was released, and some customers noted that the devices would bend evenly during normal use, sometimes even out of the box.
Later revisions, including the latest 2024 generation, don’t really show the same symptoms. However, if you put your iPad under a lot of heavy books in your bag, for example, you should be careful.
