Silverman will move into the newly created role of executive chairman, where he will continue to oversee the growth and development of the app, albeit from a more remote perspective.
Silverman’s decision is obviously a big change in itself, but Reddy’s appointment is also significant, due to his most recent role at Google, where he served as president of the trade and payment search giant.

Under Ready, Google is constantly updating its ecommerce tools, focusing on improving the connection between search and purchase. Much like Pinterest’s mission – and at times, it has seen the platform’s move on Google’s toes to some degree.
The search giant has created its own visual search results, which apparently encouraged various duplication efforts from Google. Looks more like PinterestAdding a visual search tool, similar to a Pinterest lens, and possibly throttling Pinterest’s referral traffic from search results.
In its Q4 21 update, Pinterest Note that:
“Also, lower search traffic (driven by Google’s algorithm changes in November) has negatively impacted our MAUs on a year-over-year basis. In fact, we believe that lower search traffic was the primary reason for the gradual decline of the Q3 to Q4 MAU in both the US and international markets. “
There is no direct link, but Pinterest has apparently lost a heap of Google traffic, which could be a way to reduce Google’s growing presence as a search platform, which re-enters its core territory.
As a matter of concern, Google, as a competitor in the same market, has the power to deny any advantage that Pinterest can gain. But now that Pinterest has an in-depth knowledge of Google’s precise plans and strategies on this front, Ready has played a key role in the right process since the end of Google, which could be a big advantage for Pinterest to move forward.
I mean, Google still controls search traffic, and still has a huge advantage in this regard.
