Very realistic shooter Bodycam camera, featuring cameras shown from a first-person perspective, launched into Early Access yesterday. Despite mixed reviews, it has a relatively high concurrent player count of 7,622 at the time of writing. Its 24-hour high was more than double, at 16,457. Plus, it ranked #3 on Steam’s bestseller chart, so those numbers are only going to grow.
Bodycam is a multiplayer FPS game created by just two people, Luca and Leo, aged 17 and 20 respectively. It is one of the most realistic shooters on the market today, built with Unreal Engine 5. From the perspective of the body camera, lights look brighter, shots ring louder and the screen shakes and sways with every move, making matches seem incredibly exciting. One positive reviewer wrote, “The physical movements and goals are something to adapt to.
It was at the top of my wish list and that seems to have translated into high sales. Despite its popularity, players have given it very mixed reviews so far. One disgruntled Steam reviewer wrote: “I wanted to like it, but it’s basically a UE5 project with only code to kill players and win a match with great graphics. It’s basically a playable tech demo, without you paying $30 for it.”
This price may be a bit high for some, especially since this is an early access game. Most complaints are related to confusing menus and unprepared players in the lobby. One person said they were “unable to get onto the servers” and another wrote that the game was “unplayable until the developers figure out the matchmaking issue.” Currently it is a lobby simulator.
If you want to see what all the fuss is about and get it now, The body camera is currently on sale for $29.98 / £26.55, down from $33.32 / £29.50. This is an introductory offer that runs until June 14. You can buy it here.
If you want to wait until some issues are fixed and the reviews become more positive, you can play a lot of multiplayer games in the meantime. And if you need a break from the hustle and bustle, how about some immersive story games?
