A week after one of the most tumultuous and divided elections in U.S. history, Twitter
Twitter reported that 74% of people who viewed labeled tweets saw them after a warning message had already been applied. The social network also saw a 29% decrease in quote tweets of labeled tweets as a result of a warning being in place prior to sharing. It also stated that it moved to get ahead of potentially misleading information by showing all of its U.S. users a series of pre-bunk prompts in their timelines and search results which reminded them that the election results were likely to be delayed as well as the fact that voting by mail is safe and legitimate. Twitter, along with other social networks such as Facebook, were heavily criticized for enabling the spread of disinformation during the 2016 election.
