Below the Stone, a dwarf-themed roguelike game from developer Strollert and publisher Apogee Entertainment, will be released in Early Access on Steam for PC and GOG on Wednesday, November 17, before coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch in 2024. The Xbox Series X|S will appear. Aspiring miners can try out a new demo today.
Leave no stone unturned in this rocky raguly where miners explore the kingdom of Dragus. Voted one of the three “Favorite Indie Games” at OTK Games Expo 2022 and one of the two Favorite Indie Games at TooManyGames 2022 and 2023, Stone Below invites explorers to delve into procedurally generated caves where unknown risks and rewards await.
Grab a helmet, a pickaxe and answer the call of Mother Earth as you clear your way through increasingly dangerous levels of the realm, dotted with dozens of biomes. Search for treasure in rocky defiles, the depths of magma-spewing volcanoes, and crystal-filled caverns, each with their own character, native flora, and area-specific enemies that require different equipment and playstyles.
Every expedition requires careful planning. Traverse natural paths to complete mission objectives or break through completely destructible stone walls that hide secret dungeons and shortcuts. Be careful not to dig too deep, as a failed run will result in lost equipment forever. Progress through each journey into the unknown, balance resource management and greed and return in one piece, storing valuable loot and equipment in above-ground banks for future cave dives.
Join Blacksmiths and collect resources to craft upgraded weapons, armor and equipment for future runs. Combine resources with rare metals to upgrade from simple tin pickaxes and crossbows to powerful axes and blunderbusses, and wear matching armor sets for extra stat bonuses.
A strange group of bearded brothers visit the inn to interact with dragon slayers and necromancers on duty. Chat over a beer to unlock side quests with loot. Stop by the alchemist to make healing potions and be careful not to overpay at the store! Dig into the underground sound with over an hour of original music coming soon to Apogee Music.
“Below the Stone offers a surprising amount of depth and is as sophisticated as it is charming,” said Scott Miller, founder of Apogee Entertainment. “The demo will give future miners a taste of how addicting this game is to the roguelike genre. Lots of content waiting for you, keep an eye out for early access in a few weeks.”
