Google actually wanted to keep pace with other smartphone OEMs, but made a fatal mistake. Regardless, some owners of the current Pixel 6 smartphone still see it that way, and they also complain about the Pixel 6a’s sensor.
If someone criticizes the sensors used today, it’s usually a lot of encouragement too quickly. This is also the case with the new Pixel 6a, which is known to have a different and possibly more responsive sensor.
Updates have brought improvements, but the hardware is very weak
Why “probably”? It is difficult to confirm that the new sensor is actually faster. It often seems like it, but not within measurable limits. The sensor is not at the level of current Samsung smartphones. A quick touch is not enough, the finger must be the sensor for a “time”.
At this point it should be said that updates have improved significantly since the launch of the Pixel 6 series. But compared to some competing smartphones, it’s still not enough. Rather weak hardware cannot be fully repaired.
So it’s not surprising to us that some are still talking about a “step backwards” when it comes to the fingerprint sensors that Google has built into the Pixel 6 series. This must be a hint with Google’s fence posts for successor smartphones.
Hope Google fixes it
The Pixel 7 series will follow in October with at least two new models. In terms of price, a device will probably cost a little less than 700 euros and the most expensive model could be closer to 900 euros. In return, customers should expect Google to make significant improvements to the sensors.
A now well-known plan for the Pixel 6 device as well: Google wants to offer a combination of face unlock via the front camera and finger sensor. This may then be enough for 50 percent of the face and 50 percent of the finger to be recognized. This can speed up the user experience while unlocking.
