Leica on or off, the Xiaomi flagship is missing an important switch.
Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple and Google want to offer the best camera in a smartphone. Depending on the test, we hardly see Xiaomi ahead. The most exciting challenge to the big brands is another attempt with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and by comparison you can already see if Xiaomi can actually hold its own.
However, Xiaomi has a big problem with itself as there is no neutral mode for the camera. Users can choose between an authentic Leica look and dynamic colors. Colleagues used Vibrant Mode for their testing and received harsh criticism for it. However, in pure mode you will find the color reproduction to be lifeless and overly muted.
Xiaomi can’t decide and that’s a problem
The dilemma is obvious: Leica has the upper hand and it still seems to divide the community over whether the Xiaomi flagship cameras are actually any good. Of course, all other manufacturers also have their own look, but the user does not have to decide. With Xiaomi, however, it’s 50:50, no value, Leica can’t be disabled.
But colleagues also note other points, for example with the Pixel 8 Pro. Compared to other devices, the colors here always seem very muted. Testers and I personally like it, but it doesn’t correspond to reality. In blind tests, Google cell phones generally come out on top.
Feel free to share your opinion in the comments on whether you see Xiaomi as much ahead or if you are put off by the Leica functions. I have also described the disadvantages in regular Xiaomi 14 tests.
