Xiaomi on test: Redmi Note 13 Pro+'s 200 MP camera on par with 2-year-old flagship

Xiaomi has delivered a good Android phone with the Redmi Note 13 Pro+.

Please tell me you don’t let yourself be blinded by the big numbers manufacturers like Xiaomi keep calling out for their smartphones. When it comes to the striking megapixel numbers of the main camera, a Redmi Note 13 Pro+ should be as good as a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. But of course not.

how now DXOMark Found for us, the Redmi Note 13 series flagship can be classified somewhere between smartphones from 2021/2022. To be able to keep up with devices from “later”, the 200 MP camera of a 500 euro smartphone is enough. In the global ranking it ranks alongside the Samsung Galaxy S22, OnePlus 10 Pro, Google Pixel 6a and Xiaomi 11 Pro, as well as the 13T (from 2023!).

I think the results are ok and not a disappointment. After all, there is “only” a mid-range smartphone here. If Xiaomi focuses more on quality instead of many megapixels, more will be achieved. I was also impressed with the camera on test, but didn’t rate it highly.

Pros of Camera:

Precise target exposure for outdoor and indoor portrait scenes in photo and video modes
Quite a high level of texture in outdoor situations in photo and video mode
In photo: Increased depth of field in a scene with multiple layers
In the video, the residual movement during walking is handled quite well
A fairly high level of detail in close-up telephoto mode

Cons of the camera:

Local coarseness and chromatic noise are visible in Photo mode, especially in low light conditions
Occasional incorrect skin tone reproduction in portraits in both photo and video modes
Visible white balance cast, especially under artificial light in photo and video modes
Segmentation artifacts in bokeh are sometimes visible on subjects
Video autofocus instability
Limitations of the preview compared to the final recording
