You can now use existing gadgets like the Nest Mini speaker, Nest Hub Max smart display, and Nest Wifi Pro mesh router as a sort of base to connect Matter smart devices. They are no longer called “hubs” but rather “border routers” because they act as indicators of the environment around your smart home.
Android also gets the long-promised pairing feature. You can use Fast Pair to connect a gadget to the network using the Google Home app, which itself is pretty small turning stage immediately

Google Conditions In the new year, “more Nest devices will be enabled with Mater” so they can act as border routers in Mater-connected homes. The company is also working on adding iOS support through the Google Home app for those who prefer to stay in the Google Apps ecosystem (Apple lets you connect Matter devices through iOS’s Home app). And it’s teamed up with Samsung, its biggest smartphone partner, to create a more “seamless” multi-admin experience for 2023 — making it easier to navigate between Samsung’s SmartThings and Google Home apps.

The smart home has been pretty stagnant for the past year, as businesses and consumers wait for this new standard. We’re not quite there yet, although big brands are already supporting Matter. But we expect all the new devices to sync at CES 2023 next month.
