Nintendo’s amiibo range may not be as crowded as it used to be, but new figures are still being added regularly.
With that in mind, there are reports of updated packaging for the Super Smash Bros. series. The ultimate amiibo from Nintendo. This information comes from a member of the Famiboard forum who shared some pictures of the new look.
It’s gotten a lot of attention online because the back of the box says “no mention of Switch or other compatible platforms”:
Famiboards user Ajimi: “I work in retail in France and today we received the ‘new’ Smash Amiibos (previously Link, Luigi and DK). They are the same as before but the back of the box is different, much more neutral (no picture). ) and the game or any specific controller not mentioned).”
As highlighted amiibo notification In the social media post above, the new box on the left now only shows how to use amiibo with “compatible software”, while the old box already shows all compatible platforms as well as some information about the game.
There has already been some speculation that Nintendo could “future-proof” its amiibo lineup. There could be many other reasons for a possible update, and it’s worth noting that Nintendo no longer sells or supports the 3DS and Wii U consoles – so that needs to be considered as well.
