Following a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth featuring the exciting debut of Vincent Valentine, the game’s developers have confirmed that the red-clad pseudo-vampire will indeed be joining the Rebirth party, just like Red XIII in the remake.
This comes from IGN’s own interview with the developers, where director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed Vincent’s role:
“When it comes to whether or not Vincent will be a playable character, he will be the party companion in terms of reincarnation,” Hamaguchi said. “So it will be like Red XIII in the remake.”
Specifically, this means that Vincent will not be playable in Rebirth, but will be a party member. In the remake, Red joins. However, this does not mean that Vincent has been permanently dropped from the party list – Red
Vincent’s appearance in the latest Rebirth trailer was a welcome revelation, as the character has been one of the most popular members of the group since the original FF7. In the original game, Vincent was an optional party member who he met in Nibelheim and who joined the party on a revenge mission of his own. Vincent was so popular that he got his own spin-off game, Dirge of Cerberus – although it received mixed reviews at the time.
We recently saw a big new teaser for Rebirth at Sony State of Play, where we saw not only Vincent, but Cait Sith, the Gold Saucer, and more. According to Square Enix, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will apparently contain 100 hours of content and feature a very specific scene that fans are dying to see. Rebirth is currently scheduled to release exclusively for PS5 on February 29, 2024.
We also spoke with producer Yoshinori Kitase and creative director Tetsuya Nomura about Jack Fair’s role in Rebirth and how chocobos work. You can watch the full interview here and our preview of the game here.
