Google has a plan for the Pixel 8a in terms of video output via USB-C.
Google has been installing capable hardware for a while now, but hasn’t really been using it well. USB-C on Pixel smartphones has so far been useful if you want to charge your Google cell phone and for developers. However, that will change, first with the new Pixel 8a with the upcoming June 2024 update.
As shown now, the new Android smartphone supports USB video output, but it is not enabled or disabled yet. Based on the current test versions, it is clear that the function will eventually be introduced with the June update should. Then there’s video output via USB-C for external displays.
The next Pixel feature drop is expected in June, along with some innovations for Pixel smartphones. It is doubtful whether other (existing) Pixel models will benefit from the function as well. At least things are looking good for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, as they finally have the same hardware as the Pixel 8a.
Video output via USB-C should be available on all future Pixel models, which will certainly be on all four Pixel 9 models in 2024.
