Nokia said that it is deploying an industrial-grade private wireless 5G campus network at the Nuremburg development center of secure industrial IoT specialist MYNXG.
The private 5G campus wireless solution is based on Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC), which is a scalable automation platform that Nokia said provides a “reliable, secure, high-performance private wireless network.” DAC also combines edge computing capability and low latency allowing for the secure, on-site collection and hosting of all generated proprietary data, according to the vendor.
MYNXG reported that it will use its new 5G network to develop new secure solutions for IoT at its new industrial IoT interoperability test center. The company will also perform real-life testing of equipment and sensors.
According to Thomas Hainzel, head of EMEA Manufacturing & Logistics at Nokia, it is “crucial” for industrial companies like MYNXG to trial IoT solutions and applications in “real-life conditions” so that they can fully ” realize their Industry 4.0 ambitions.”
“This requires not only a proven, resilient IoT platform,” he continued, “but also a powerful and secure high bandwidth network. In this case, Nokia provides MYNXG and its ecosystem with the ideal platform for its testing and development work.”
MYNXG’s CEO Bernd Möller commented: “Our goal is to be able to offer our customers robust, and certified end-to-end secure industrial IoT solutions, so that they can drive the automation and digitalization of their processes. By integrating Nokia’s 5G technology into our overall industrial IoT technology platform, we have not only found an ideal solution for testing IoT systems, but also the basis for further marketplace development.”
Nokia, which views private networks as a transition from LTE to 5G, has more than 220 private wireless network enterprise customers worldwide, with 5G customers including Deutsche Bahn, Lufthansa Technik and Toyota Production Engineering. The company has also worked with U.S. carriers AT&T and Verizon to offer private LTE and 5G Industry 4.0 services.
