(Pocket-Lint) – Finally, Google is simplifying its approach to communication apps. In particular, the Mountain View-based company is integrating two video calling tools, Duo and Mitt, into one platform.
On the front, there will be only Google Meet. Google Says It plans to add the Meet feature to the Duo app and then close the Meet app. Google seems to be hoping that the “Google Meet” brand will become your calling solution – free from any issues that may affect other chat tools available. It will use Gmail address and phone number to allow you to chat with contacts
The Duo app, launched by Google in 2016, lets you call someone directly – including their phone number – without having to send a link or tap the Meet button at the invitation of Google Calendar. It’s a lot like FaceTime. According to Google, the Duo app will be renamed Google Meet later this year. The existing Meet app will become the Meet original and then it will be canceled.
If you are a Duo or Meet user, your history, contacts and messages will not disappear with the change. Google promises to integrate the platforms “carefully”.
