It’s been an up and down thing with Pixel phones over the past few years, as far as the devices and their accessories go. While the devices up to the Pixel 4 were optical statements, extremely high quality for the eyes and hands, the Pixel 5 was a very leprous device. But only for one year.
Everything is back to normal with the Pixel 6. A mix of glass and metal, also an attractive and unique design. However, what was not introduced was the tradition of “fabric cases” (cases with fabric). Arguably the best-built Google phones get extremely cheap accessories.
The new transparent plastic cases no longer have an independent look, the Pixel vibe is not felt or seen here. A year later, criticism is huge, Google is really bad. Many say the quality is sub-par.
colleagues from 9to5Google Tried out what one of the currently recommended cases looks like after using it for a while. To be honest, I would somehow expect that if a piece of plastic costs 30 euros, it would last a long time.
It is not so. Original Google accessories are fragile, discolored and prone to deformation.
“After all, looks aren’t everything. What really makes the case the worst I’ve used is the way it slowly warps.”
For some people, the case degenerates within weeks and not months later. Mostly in button or connection areas, where the material is rather “thin” due to the necessary cutouts.
The situation gets worse if you frequently take the device out of the case, for example plugging it into a controller. The Pixel 6 case doesn’t handle very well, it breaks even faster.
Overall, Google’s official case for the Pixel 6 series doesn’t stand up to yellowing, blistering and cracking for long-term use. In its official description, Google claims that the case “enhances the design of the phone while protecting it”, which is not true in my experience.
We’re hoping that Google shows a bit more promise for the Pixel 7 series of accessories again.
