The iOS 16.1 update will also include clean loading. Apple says this will allow users to optimize charging when cleaner power sources are available, helping to reduce your iPhone’s carbon footprint.
Clean charging is an option you can select under Settings > Battery > Battery health and charging. With a clean charging option, Apple says, “iPhone will try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when low-carbon electricity is available in your area.” Your iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach full charge before you use it.”
Apple’s shared photo library

With iOS 16.1, you can create an iCloud Shared Photo Library instead of a standard iCloud Shared Album.
It allows you to invite up to five people or a total of six people to a library where you can add, delete, edit or add photos and videos of your choice.
The Camera app will introduce a new toggle that will let users automatically send photos to shared libraries. So if you’re on vacation and take a group photo at the beach with a group of friends, if this option is enabled, everyone can take photos and see all the photos in the shared album.
Once you update to iOS 16.1, your lock screen will have Live Activity showing updates on sports information, ride sharing services like Uber, or food delivery orders. So you can see how long it will take to reach your home with information on how close dinner will be. Or, as the screenshot below shows, baseball game scores, intros and numbers with game updates. This will be very useful with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which have screens that are always on so you can quickly see new information. You’ll see some apps from Monday, but later they need developer approval to show more apps.

iOS 16.1 will add support for new Matter accessories to the Home app, allowing users to control smart home accessories.
Matter is a new connectivity standard that tries to make it easier to use all your smart home accessories together, regardless of who made them. The idea is to allow smart home devices to connect to a home hub, whether the hub is made by Apple, Google or Amazon. This means you can go to the store and buy a smart lightbulb, say, without worrying about it working with your home system, as long as it supports Matter.
