Amazon Games has signed a deal with Crystal Dynamics to support the development and publication of the next big Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The companies announced the partnership today, Dec. 15, saying they have “reached an agreement whereby Crystal Dynamics will develop a new multi-platform Tomb Raider title, with full support of Amazon Games and the game published worldwide.”
The game in question is the next-gen Tomb Raider announced in April 2022. Crystal Dynamics, which was acquired by Embracer Group in August, has been given permission to acquire more unconventional publishing deals, such as its deal with Amazon.
“Crystal Dynamics has a tremendous opportunity to redefine the Tomb Raider publishing relationship following our acquisition by Embracer,” said Scott Amos, president of Crystal Dynamics.
“Change is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games we’ve found a team that shares our creative vision, ambitions and values for the world of Lara Croft in a variety of ways to rewrite publishing and development collaborations. , and we’re excited to embark on this journey.” Together we can make the biggest and best Tomb Raider game yet.”
A relatively vague description of the new game was also shared, though it’s basically what players can expect from the next Crystal Dynamics game. The new, untitled Tomb Raider game is a single-player narrative adventure that continues Lara Croft’s story in the Tomb Raider series.
Incorporating all the elements that made Tomb Raider one of the most respected franchise games, it puts players in control of the confident, multidimensional heroine, Lara Croft, in an environment that rewards creative exploration and exploration, with engaging puzzles to solve. and various enemies to meet and defeat.
“Crystal Dynamics builds on the power and cutting-edge technology of Unreal Engine 5 to take storytelling to the next level in the biggest and most immersive Tomb Raider game yet. The title is currently in development and more details will be announced at a later date.”
Little has been said about the game, and since it’s still in the early stages of development, it will likely be a while before Crystal Dynamics, Embracer, or Amazon Games get more involved.
