- Google Pixel owners in India are finally receiving Android 11.
- The rollout comes after Google initially delayed the update in India by a week.
Google’s Pixel phones are the go-to devices if you want brisk Android updates, and this has proved to be the case with Android 11 as well. Unfortunately, Pixel owners in India didn’t get Android 11 on day one, but it looks like the new update is now being pushed out in the market.
A Pixel Phone Community moderator confirmed that Android 11 is now available for Pixel users in India (h/t: Android Police), while several redditors and Twitter users have also reported receiving the update on their phones. The update size seems to vary between 1.4GB and 1.7GB, so those with limited data plans should connect to Wi-Fi to download it instead.
The news comes roughly a week after Google confirmed that “Indian ecosystem requirements” were behind the delay.
“We’re working on making sure the Android 11 update is compatible with Indian ecosystem requirements, and expect it to begin rolling out next week,” Google said last week.
Pixel owners in India also told us that they were able to get the Android 11 update if they were on the Android 11 beta before. Nevertheless, we’re glad to see the update finally pushed out for all in the market.
Android 11 brings a variety of notable features to the table, such as a separate section in the notification shade for conversations and chats, a notification history option, and screen recorder functionality. There are also a number of Pixel-exclusive features, including Smart Reply in chat apps and app suggestions.
