The GSA said the manufacturing sector was the largest private network receiver
A new report from the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) found that at least 794 companies in 68 countries and territories are setting up personal mobile networks based on LTE or 5G technology.
The GSA report noted that LTE remained the preferred technology for setting up personal mobile networks worldwide, although it said that 5G was being used by about 37% of tracked customers in the study.
The association has identified more than 70 telecom network operators involved in the private mobile network project.
The new report reveals that a large number of market participants are actively engaged in developing and delivering solutions for personal mobile networks. Of the 794 companies known to be setting up LTE or 5G private mobile networks, the manufacturing sector appears to be involved with pilots or installations known to 140 identified companies, up from 111 by the end of 2021. The education sector is second. The most common group, with 80 customer deployments, is followed by mining companies (69) and power utility companies (68).
Within the manufacturing sector, the GSA report shows that there are 71 isolated manufacturing customer installations, compared to 42 process manufacturing, an additional 27 will be confirmed. In the subcategory, automobiles have the most consumer installations, followed by electrical equipment, machinery and components, and then computer, electronic and optical products.
Also, GSA noted that global-scale cloud providers are offering personalized mobile network solutions, sometimes in partnership with mobile operators or network providers.
Joe Barrett, president of the Global Mobile Suppliers Association, said: “All kinds of companies, whether they are in the manufacturing, education or automotive sectors, are investing and setting up networks that will drive automation and productivity. With LTE and the growing 5G, companies are betting on private networks and what they can deliver.
“The private mobile network market is a significant ecosystem where organizations are collaborating with vendors to make private networks a reality. We are currently tracking more than 50 equipment vendors who were involved in supplying equipment for LTE or 5G based private mobile networks, ”Barrett continued.
“With this ecosystem now taking place, with many opportunities, and many regulators planning to make the spectrum available for LTE and 5G personal use, we expect significant market growth in the next few years,” Barrett concluded.
The GSA states that it defines a private mobile network as a 3GPP-based 4G / LT-5G private mobile network for the sole use of private entities such as enterprises, industries or governments, which is not provided to the general public and uses the defined spectrum 3GPP.
