Who would have thought: The fastest gaming smartphone currently getting an even faster variant. The new Asus ROG Phone 6D and its Ultimate model rely on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC and LPDDR5X memory. Together with the AeroActive portal for better cooling, the smartphone should set itself apart from the competition.
It wasn’t that long ago that Asus introduced the latest generation of gaming smartphones with the ROG Phone 6 (Pro). Equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, up to 18 GB of RAM and a completely revised cooling concept, the device can be Very impressive in practical tests. But now, almost two months later, the Taiwanese manufacturer is launching a slightly improved version: the Asus ROG Phone 6D (Ultimate).
Focus, and hence the suffix “D” in the name, is a new processor. Asus relies on the MediaTek Dimension 9000+, which has eight cores and Cortex X2 core up to 3.2 GHz Like the Plus variant of the clock Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the Dimensity SoC is manufactured at TSMC with a 4 nm structure size and is more “binned” to enable slightly increased performance compared to the non-Plus variant of the Dimensity.
Pure performance: New SoC and LPDDR5X RAM
There is also 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. That’s two gigabytes less RAM capacity, but the Asus ROG Phone 6D is offering that in return The new LPDDR5X standard. In addition to increased bandwidth of up to 7,500 Mbit/s, it also offers low latency. Does that lead to better performance? We ran a few benchmarks with the Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.
At first glance, the MediaTek SoC can actually easily push itself ahead of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1. Only when it comes to graphics performance does Qualcomm seem to have the edge with the specially developed Adreno GPU. MediaTek, on the other hand, uses “purchased” Mali GPUs for the Dimension 9000+. Nevertheless: both chips are slightly different from each other and should provide a full gaming performance.
Highlight: A portal to the copper heat sink
However, Asus has added another feature to the ROG Ultimate variant: Aeroactive Portal. To further increase the cooling potential, a small flap is assembled under which a Copper heatsink When the AeroActive Cooler 6 is placed on the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, the “portal” opens with an electric motor and directs fan airflow through the cooling fins. Still, the gaming smartphone remains Against splashing water according to IPX4 secure
As in the days of pop-up front cameras, the AeroActive portal has fall detection and automatically closes when the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate slips out of your hand. Incidentally, according to Asus, the flap should have a lifespan At least 40,000 open own
Asus ROG Phone 6 serves as the technical base
Otherwise not much has changed. Asus ROG Phone 6D (Ultimate) also has it 6.78″ OLED panel with 165 Hz frame rate and 1 ms response time. These are joined by crisp ones Front stereo speakers, triple camera with new 50 MP Sony IMX766 main sensor and 6,000 mAh battery with 65 W charging. AirTrigger, i.e. ultrasonic shoulder buttons, is also on board You can get more impressions of the “original” ROG Phone 6 (Pro). Read our test.
The only difference: the Asus ROG Phone 6D (Ultimate) exists Only in “space gray”.. A nice change from the black and white color variants, which are especially compatible with colored light – or even better: the smaller OLED display in the Ultimate version.
