Hi everyone, I am Sebastian Reinard, Plague Tale: Editor-in-Chief of Requiem. The first title of the series: A Plague Tale: Three years after Innocence, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the evolution of our main characters. In the upcoming sequel, Requiem, Amicia and Hugo de Rune are at a turning point in their lives.
How have Amisia and Hugo changed from innocence?
Sibling relationships were central to innocence. Amicia and Hugo did not know each other well at the beginning of the game and their complex but rich affection for each other was at stake as well as their survival. As they both try to find their place, Amicia offers more protection to her brother.
The game ends with this existing relationship to build the next chapter. The idea for the sequel was to keep these themes alive while introducing new ones, each with their own conflicts and emotions.
Requiem introduces a more mature Amicia. He has come to terms with his introverted self, and he has become more playful and interested in bonding with his brother. Our heroes are now calling for more in-depth treatment and this will bring about a new kind of situation. Their internal weakness will be their next challenge.
Threats by themselves
Hugo’s power is evolving – he will struggle to control them and sometimes they will overthrow him. Although they will be the key to him to survive the dangerous situation, the young boy must avoid the risk of losing to his power.
For Amicia, his fighting skills, respected in innocence, will have an impact on him. She has no choice but to take on the role that only she can guess – but she will have to deal with the traumatic emotions that come with it.
Our characters are not superhuman, and we two have to pay the price for being heroes. Fortunately, they will get help along the way. In contrast to the mate-unfortunate band that Amicia and Hugo formed in the first game, Requim will introduce the new character, with more confidence and experience to the adults, who will guide the two siblings through their personal struggles.
Fictional paradise and dangerous encounters
Our heroes will face their internal conflict with the outside. To begin with, they will discover a new part of France, Provence, which will give them new sights and sensations, which will lead them to believe in a kind of paradise. Unfortunately, the harsh medieval realities are inevitably caught, and their hopes disappear before they become too comfortable.
The streets of Provence are unpredictable, and danger is everywhere: mercenary bands, ambushes and the ever-cruel nature of their time – that ordinary villagers are no exception. Let’s not forget about rats and bites, they will have to face another trauma as the world collapses around them. The plague sadly follows them.
Moving forward from innocence: showing initiative
It is clear that their biggest trouble is associated with Hugo’s power, and they will finally understand what that means.
In the same process, they begin to lead the way. In innocence, Amicia and Hugo had a passive role in how things happened: with the Inquisition after them, they could only react to the attack.
When the Requiem begins, no one stays after the De Runes. It lets them go and face adversity. The whispers of an island associated with Hugo’s fate will force them to go further, to unexpected territory. Amicia and Hugo will be directed to work within the bounds of morality and their friends from yesterday may be the enemy of tomorrow …
A Plague Tale: Requiem will be released on PlayStation 5 on October 18, 2022. We can’t wait for your reunion with Amesia and Hugo in the end!
