During The Game Awards ceremony last week, Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos in the new God of War games, made a comment about Call of Duty that was quite funny at the time, but was heavily criticized by the developers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Who didn’t find it funny to make fun of their work, especially in their circumstances.
At the event, the judge, who awarded the award for best performance, decided to make a joke about how long his acceptance speech was when he won the award in last year’s edition and noted that It lasted longer than the campaign. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIISomething that caused mixed reactions among the public. Here is what he commented:
“I will not be here with a long speech. I’m going to follow the script. There is no eight-minute speech like last year. But, fun fact, my speech was actually longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign.”
Although we saw more than one participant smiling at the event. However, this comment was not received very well on social networks, especially by developers and ex-developers of Call of Duty. Those who decided to defend their work and harshly criticized the judge for his jokes. Ajinca Limaye, a former Call of Duty developer at Infinity Ward who now works as a senior systems designer at Bungie, noted:
“It’s funny. But yeah, Call of Duty’s metrics destroying absolutely every God of War game (probably combined with being honest) are equally (if not more) ridiculous.”

For its part, Nelson Plummy, associate art director of Treyarch’s Call of Duty studioHe indicated:
“Think about the user’s brief engagement once the game is consumed. “I don’t recognize myself.”

Similarly, Darcy Sandal, Senior Engineer at Sledgehammer Games Another Call of Duty DeveloperAdded:
“Honestly, as Call of Duty developers, we’ve heard worse. But that’s not what we expect from a partner at an event supposed to celebrate this year’s achievements in gaming. Especially with all the leaked information about its development.

Developers weren’t the only ones who didn’t find the judge’s comments funny Several fans also expressed their displeasure.. Such was the case with Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who not only criticized the actor, but also pointed out the lack of attention paid to developers at The Game Awards this year. Here is what he commented:
“Criticize what you want about Call of Duty MW3, but approving a dumb teleprompter joke that attacks the developers is in poor taste.
The development of that game was incredibly difficult and well documented. Attacking developers is a wrong decision.
Celebrate my ass developers.”
Say what you will critically about Call of Duty MW3, but it allowed some dumb teleprompter joke attacking devs in bad, bad taste.
The dev on that game was incredibly solid and well documented. The devs called the attack wrong.
devs celebrate my ass.

Remarkably, The developer tweet has been deleted, possibly sending some sort of problem with activation. Let us note that reports suggest that a new Call of Duty installment is not even planned this year. However, by mid-year plans were revealed to expand the campaign. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. However, that didn’t happen, and instead the company gave us an entirely new game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III It was built in 18 months and the developers were struggling, so the community and the people who made this delivery possible were not happy with the way their work was received, especially considering the conditions under which it was done. The comment, as well as the little attention the developers received at The Game Awards, angered many people.
for now, There is no response from the judges or The Game Awards for this review, and probably no one will decide to escalate this situation. On a related note, you can read more about Christopher Judge’s commentary here. Likewise, these are the first details of the next Call of Duty.
Editor’s note:
While the judge’s comment was certainly funny, especially to someone outside the situation, it’s also true that he didn’t need to make fun of one of the most controversial developments of the year. It’s true that developers seem to be left out of The Game Awards and that needs to change.
