Crime Boss: Rock City – Dragon’s Gold Cup is an impressive addition to an already impressive core game. Developed by Ingame Studios and published by 505 Games, this expansion pack offers the mix of first-person shooter action and regional combat that defined the original game.
We have one for this review please the master received, but this does not affect our honest opinion.
A Hollywood cast second to none
One of the standout features of Crime Boss: City of Rock is undoubtedly the impressive Hollywood cast. Michael Madsen, Chuck Norris, Michael Rooker and many others give the game a cinematic atmosphere. With the recent introduction of Danny Trejo to the Dragon’s Gold Cup expansion, the team only gets stronger. It’s impressive how the game’s character models represent real actors in their youth. The facial animation is mostly great, though there are moments where it doesn’t quite match the emotions of the actors, especially Baker, Madsen’s performance.
A story that fascinates
The plot of Dragon’s Gold Cup expansion is interesting and adds extra depth to the base game. The introduction of the Dollar Dragon character and the resulting collaboration with a former rival gives the story an exciting twist. Missions are varied and offer a mix of territorial warfare, stealth missions and intelligence gathering.
Planning and Strategy: The Heart of the Game
A special attraction of the game is the planning board. Not only does it give an in-depth look at each mission, but it also allows players to carefully plan their strategy and switch between missions. This feature shows how much emphasis the developers have put on detail and immersion.
Core game and expansion: a harmonious combination
While the Dragon’s Gold Cup expansion offers players new story missions, the original game remains relevant to its operations and missions. This ensures a good game balance and hours of fun.
Graphics and Sound: An Audiovisual Experience
The graphics in Crime Boss: Rock City – Dragon’s Gold Cup are nothing short of stunning, especially considering we tested the game on a PC with an RTX 4070 TI. The lighting effects, particularly the ray tracing technology, give the world of Rock City an impressive depth and realism. Every texture, from the pavement to the character’s facial features, is detailed and sharply rendered. This, combined with smooth animations, creates an immersive gaming experience
The sound of the game is in no way inferior to the graphics. The background music is atmospheric and fits the gangster theme of the game perfectly. The sound effects, be it the crack of a gun or the distant ringing of the office telephone, are clear and realistic. The voice output is particularly noteworthy. Hollywood actors not only in their acting but also in their voice acting. Every dialogue, every conflict feels real and takes the player deeper into the world of Rock City.
Something stumbles along the way
Despite the many positive aspects, there are also some points of criticism. The game’s AI could be improved in some areas. The predictable movements of AI opponents make some missions too easy, which can detract from the overall experience.
