The 256-Bit AES-XTS data protection that you use through an app on your phone provides multi-user authorization and management features. With ArmorLock technology, your phone is your security key. The ArmorLock app provides multi-user authorization and management features. It doesn’t matter if you are using one drive or a fleet of drives.

So how does it work? Before you ship your drive to whoever may be receiving it you authorize them to unlock the ArmorLock drive using your preferred email or messaging service. With the app, you can format your drive to one of the compatible file systems and when your content is no longer needed, use the secure erase feature to erase the drive with the tap of a button.

A nice feature that is included is that if you can’t remember where you last used your drive, the app will show you where it is on a map.

Along with data encryption, the drive is also IP67 water and dust resistant, and it offers up to 9.8′ of drop protection and up to 1000 pounds of crush resistance.

Speed

The speed of the drive is reasonably fast, but there are a lot faster options out there on the market if you are looking for a bus-powered NVMe drive.

Do you really need this type of security?

Well, that really depends on what content you are storing on the drive. If you are storing important financial information, personal details, or any type of confidential material or footage, then yes, it does make a lot of sense to have a drive like this. If you are just storing regular footage that isn’t of a sensitive nature, then no, you probably don’t need it.
