And this time too, Google is implementing its update guarantee or ending it as planned. The Pixel 4 series no longer had the regular November security update. However, it may well be that there will be a final update for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL in the coming months.
However, Google did not respond to colleagues and our requests. Namely, revisiting the EOL of two Pixel 4 smartphones. Officially, the update guarantee runs until October 2022 – including security updates. Even then, Google still had a three-year basic software warranty.
Now the last Google device security update has a three-year guarantee
With the release of the November update, however, it was clear that there wouldn’t be much more. There was no sign of him either. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will be followed by the cheaper Pixel 4a in August, and the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G will drop in fall 2023. Only the Pixel 6 has a five-year guarantee for security updates.
Pixel 4: Only Google smartphone with original Face Unlock hardware
For me, Pixel 4 in Storm Trooper color is still one of the best looking smartphones of recent years with good haptics. It also makes history for having a built-in IR sensor on the front for face unlock, as well as a gesture recognition hardware called Motion Sense.
In recent months, experts have agreed that Pixel 4 devices are still too good to be sent to EOL of their software. Which is a shame, because there was Android 13 through the update, but with the Pixel feature drops the next three Quarterly Updates (QPR) will no longer be available. Google must revise its own strategy.
Goodbye, Pixel 4!
