2024 looks to be a year of change again, as alongside Samsung and Xiaomi, Google is also making massive adjustments to its own smartphone strategy. Now there’s word on what Google plans to do differently with the upcoming Pixel 9 series than last year. Is there a big surprise coming soon?
The biggest surprise of all may be that Google is getting an early start with the Pixel 9 series and not releasing all the devices until October 2024. I’ve seen it once: The Pixel 8 was spotted in photos in July 2023. The first images of the seemingly “finished” Pixel 9 Pro appeared online a full three months ago and a total of 6 months ahead of the expected market launch.
Contrary to expectations, the Pixel 9 Pro has already appeared without the typical prototype design:
But whether or not Google keeps pushing its hardware a bit further, there are other exciting details. This includes a new structure of the portfolio as the Pro model will be available in two screen sizes for the first time. A variant should be as big or small as the regular Pixel 9, based on the dimensions of the Pixel 8 with minimal deviation. The second variant has a larger screen.
And that’s not all, because a new foldable will be included in this illustrious group. There will be many important improvements with the successor of the Pixel Fold, for example the use of the same state-of-the-art chipset that brought the chip from the previous year, which was a disaster at the price point of 1,900 euros.
According to reliable sources, the new Pixel Fold will be called Pixel 9 Pro Fold. As a result, the Pixel 9 Pro has a total of three variants. This new structure certainly makes a lot of sense and should be easier to market. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more surprises.
What to expect from today:
- Pixel 9
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL/Max
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold
