Hideki Kamiya is one of the most acclaimed directors in the industry. His work with Capcom, including Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Okami and Spectacular Joe, is fondly remembered, while his platinum games works, such as Bayonetta and Vanquish, are considered the pinnacle of modern action games. now, With many wondering what the future holds for Kamiya, the director wants to look to the past.
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Kamiya has expressed his desire to work with Capcom again on the Okami and Viewful Joe series. The director mentioned that his work with these properties is equal, as he still has ideas for further distribution. Here’s what he said about it:
“Of course, I’d like to work with them if I ever get the chance. In fact, I already had a third Viewtiful Joe story in mind. I always wanted to do it. I wonder if Capcom will let me make another Viewful Joe…Okami. I think I left it unfinished, so I’d be happy if we could make that happen as well.”
About Viewful Joe, Kamiya worked on the first two installments for the GameCube and still has ideas for a potential third major installment. Although the director has mentioned that he would love to work on a third title in the series, we certainly won’t forget Spectacular Joe: Red Hot Rumble y Perspective Joe: Double troublewhich will arrive on GameCube and Nintendo DS in 2005.
For its part, We will not forget OkamidenIts sequel the eyes For DS, which Kamiya did not participate in, as he left Capcom at the time to co-found Platinum Games. Unfortunately, these are just the director’s wishes, and right now it’s unknown if a new Okami or Viewtiful Joe is in Capcom’s plans.
However, considering that Kamiya quit Platinum Games earlier this year, The director is free to join any project he wants. Thus, Kamiya, along with Shinji Mikami, who left Tango Gameworks a few months ago, are expected to reveal their future plans, which will not only include a new game, but even create an entirely new studio.
Viewful Joe is a video game series developed by Clover Studios, a Capcom subsidiary, and published by Capcom. The first title came on the GameCube in 2003 It was later released on other platforms including PlayStation 2 Here we were presented with a beat’em up with a unique visual style that pays homage to classic tokusatsu films, with Japanese special effects that define the style.
The success of the first game led to the development of a sequel released in 2004. The series has been well received for its challenging gameplay, stylish presentation and innovative use of visual effects. Then in 2005 we saw the launch Spectacular Joe: Red Hot Rumble y Perspective Joe: Double trouble. Unfortunately, the series has been completely silent since then.
For its part, okami is an action-adventure game developed by Clover Studios and published by Capcom. It was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. The game was later released on other platforms including Wii, PlayStation 3 and more recently Modern Platforms.
The game introduces us to a mechanic where players use a sky brush to perform actions such as attacking enemies, solving puzzles and restoring the beauty of the world. The game received critical acclaim for its beautiful visuals, engaging story and innovative gameplay.
Let’s hope both Kamiya and Capcom join forces once again to work on a new installment of the series, or at least Viewtiful Joe re-releases for modern consoles In related matters, Kamiya talks about Bayonet’s future. Likewise, we won’t see a Resident Evil game in 2024.
Editor’s note:
Need a new Viewtiful Joe. Although Okami is already available on modern consoles, Joe’s adventures need to be available to everyone interested today. While I can’t see a new game in these series, I can see re-releases or remasters being more likely.
