Google is preparing new Android smartphones, and some details are leaking in the run-up to the market launch.
After the last generation brought only a few changes to its predecessor, the Pixel 9 is said to have more camera innovations on board. Meanwhile, hard information about software and new hardware is coming out from very good sources. Colleagues say the upgrade is across the board.
What does that mean specifically? The Pixel 9’s ultra-wide-angle image sensor has been replaced by a new Sony IMX858, which has a significantly larger physical area. What remains unchanged is Samsung’s GNK for the main camera, which we’ll find in all models, not just the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Upgrades to cameras other than the new Fold
Also new to the Pixel 9 Pro is the IMX858 for the telephoto and front cameras. This is a significant upgrade and can ensure consistent image quality across all cameras. Last but not least, a big win is the autofocus that the regular Pixel 9 front camera gets.
When it comes to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s hardware, the news is rather bad. The main camera (Sony IMX787) remains untouched, but there is a technical downgrade for all other image sensors. In the future, the image sensor for the internal selfie camera will be from Samsung and shrink from 1/2.8″ to 1/3.95″. Let’s see how this plays out.
First details about the Pixel camera are leaking
According to the Pixel camera source code, 8K support will officially start with the Pixel 9 series. The hardware was able to do it last year and the software can do it this year. Another video from another source seems to confirm that Google has nothing new for zoom, which remains at a maximum of 30x despite the new image sensor.
I think that Google will have a few innovations in its software and then definitely rely on AI again.
