Streaming services have become indispensable in today’s daily life: the respective service providers experienced a real boom especially during the Corona pandemic. Meanwhile, however, the tide seems to be turning again, as less is now being spent on streaming services in Germany
At least this is the result of a representative survey overall 1,165 people aged 16 and over participated in According to Bitcom, respondents spend an average of 15.70 euros per month on video streaming services. There are around 11 euros for audio streaming services. That is, the cost has decreased by about 14 percent compared to last year. Last year the cost was 17.90 euros (video) and 13.10 euros (audio).
There are of course major differences between individual age groups. 30 to 49 year olds spend the most at 17.10 euros. 16 to 29-year-olds follow with 15.80 euros, with over-65s bringing up the rear with 15.10 euros. On average, men also spend slightly more than women (16.10 euros vs. 15.30 euros). Costs for on-demand streams are also falling, dropping by one euro to 12.80 euros
All in all, spending will be significantly lower than in 2016 corona year. Streaming services have increased especially due to lockdown and quarantine regulations. Also, the range of different services is currently expanding, with Netflix leading the way in the country. However, the provider’s new account model should ensure that fewer use the platform. In Spain, Netflix lost nearly a million users as a result of the new sharing rules.
