Well, I’m still a bit in shock, but I want to keep you all updated. A few weeks ago I went to a dermatologist for an annual skin and mole exam that Jess proactively scheduled for me. I had a mole on the bottom of my leg that they wanted to remove just as a precaution. It came back as melanoma, but they’re hopeful we caught it early. Another dark spot appeared nearby, so today they did a biopsy and removed a larger area around the melanoma in hopes that under the microscope they would see clear edges that were not melanoma and we would know we had it. I appreciate the hope of finding it sooner, but take this as a public service announcement (PSA) to get your skin checked.
For those who don’t have it in mind, melanoma is a type of skin cancer that starts in melanocytes. Melanocytes are the cells that produce the pigment that gives the skin its color. The pigment is called melanin and is usually found in sun-exposed skin, but it can appear in the eyes or rarely inside the body. Fortunately, they detected the disease in Ninja at an early stage, so they have already started treatment to put some brakes on it.
With this in mind, the streamer invites her followers to undergo an annual medical check-up to avoid future complications.
