Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller not only responded to the game’s unfortunate review bombing on Steam, but also took the time to reassure fans about the amount of content that awaits them.
For those who don’t know, Overwatch 2 was released on Steam on August 10th and quickly became the worst user-rated game on the platform. At the time of writing our story, Overwatch 2 has a rating of just 0.96, based on a 10% approval rating with 92,028 votes.
a Blizzard.com, Keller took the bombing investigation in stride. While he admits that being the target of these online attacks isn’t fun for your game, it’s more than fun to watch new players participate.
“We also launched on Steam last week, and while it wasn’t a fun experience to review, it’s great to see so many new players getting into Overwatch 2 for the first time,” Keller wrote. “Our goal with Overwatch 2 was to make the game more accessible to more people than ever before.”
Keller then talked about the controversial decision to cancel Overwatch 2’s long-awaited PvE Hero Mode and how that definitely helped blow the review. He also shared the future vision of Overwatch 2 and promised that it will be a sight to behold.
“Many Steam reviews cite the 2019 announcement of the removal of a large PvE component as a major reason for dissatisfaction with the game,” Keller said. “I understand. It was an ambitious project announcement that we ultimately couldn’t implement.
“If we can’t turn back time, what can we do? We can keep adding and improving Overwatch 2. That’s how we move forward. That means more maps, heroes, game modes, quests, stories, events, cosmetics, etc. Great features – A game that expands
Despite the removal of the PvE Hero mode, Overwatch 2 fans can still look forward to short PvE story missions, including the game’s final season – Invasion. In this new season, players will battle the Null Sector in story missions and see how heroes like Lucio, Reinhardt and others met before joining Winston’s forces in Overwatch.
